The Sumatera Bangka Cable System (SBCS) is a submarine cable system that connects the islands of Sumatera and Bangka in Indonesia. The cable system spans a distance of approximately 240 kilometers, running from Teluk Bayur in Padang, Sumatera, to the city of Sungailiat in Bangka Island.
The SBCS submarine cable system was commissioned in 2018 and is operated by PT Mora Telematika Indonesia (Moratelindo), a leading telecommunications company in Indonesia. The cable system has a design capacity of 40 Gbps and provides high-speed internet connectivity to the islands of Sumatera and Bangka, which were previously underserved in terms of internet connectivity.
The SBCS submarine cable system comprises of four fiber pairs, with two of the fiber pairs being used for the main transmission and two for the protection. The cable system is designed to be highly resilient, with multiple branching units to ensure that any disruption to the cable system can be quickly rectified.
The SBCS submarine cable system is expected to play a significant role in driving economic growth and development in the islands of Sumatera and Bangka, by providing high-speed internet connectivity to businesses, households, and government institutions.
