San Andres Isla Tolu Submarine Cable (SAIT)
The San Andres Isla Tolu Submarine Cable (SAIT) is a critical telecommunications infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity between the San Andres archipelago and the mainland of Colombia. This submarine cable plays a significant role in supporting the growing demand for high-speed internet and reliable communication services in the region.
Ready for Service Date: The SAIT submarine cable was officially ready for service in December 2022. This milestone marked a significant advancement in telecommunications capabilities for the areas served by the cable.
Cable Landing Stations: The SAIT cable features landing stations that connect the cable to terrestrial networks. The primary landing stations are located at San Andres Island and Tolu, allowing for seamless integration of internet and communication services between the island and the Colombian mainland.
Total Capacity: The SAIT submarine cable boasts a total capacity of 100 Tbps (terabits per second). This high capacity is essential to meet the increasing data demands from both residential and commercial users, as well as to support emerging technologies such as cloud computing and streaming services.
Lifespan of the Cable: The expected lifespan of the SAIT submarine cable is approximately 25 years. This durability ensures long-term viability for the investment and assures users of the continuity of service over the coming decades.
