Penbal-4 submarine cable is a high-capacity fiber optic cable system that spans approximately 2,500 kilometers from Penang, Malaysia to Balikpapan, Indonesia. The cable system is owned and operated by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), one of the leading telecommunication companies in Malaysia.
The Penbal-4 submarine cable provides reliable high-speed internet connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia, and serves as a key communication link for business, government, and other organizations in the region. The cable system has a total capacity of 2.56 terabits per second (Tbps) and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) systems.
The Penbal-4 submarine cable was completed in 2009, and is the fourth submarine cable system deployed by TM in the region. The cable system has a design life of 25 years and is expected to continue providing high-speed internet connectivity and supporting economic growth in Malaysia and Indonesia for many years to come.
