i2i Cable Network (i2icn) is a submarine cable system that connects Chennai, India to Singapore. It is approximately 3,200 km in length and has a capacity of 8.4 Tbps (terabits per second). The cable system is owned by a consortium of telecommunications companies including Bharti Airtel, Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) and Telemedia Pacific Group Ltd.
The i2i Cable Network was completed in 2001 and was designed to provide reliable and high-speed connectivity between India and Singapore. The cable system is equipped with the latest optical fiber technology and provides advanced features like automatic restoration, which ensures high availability in case of any cable fault.
The i2i Cable Network has helped to boost the telecommunications infrastructure in India and has facilitated the growth of industries like IT and e-commerce. It has also improved connectivity between India and Southeast Asia, enabling faster and more efficient communication and data transfer.
In addition to the i2i Cable Network, the consortium also owns several other submarine cable systems in the region including the Southeast Asia-India Cable (SEA-ME-WE 4), the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), and the TGN-Intra Asia Cable System. These cables together form a robust telecommunications network that connects various countries in the region to the rest of the world.
