The Finland-Estonia Connection (FEC) submarine cable is a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing telecommunications between Finland and Estonia. This undersea cable is designed to improve connectivity, support increased data traffic, and fortify the digital landscape of the Baltic region.
The FEC was officially ready for service on December 1, 2022. It connects two primary cable landing stations: the first in Finland, located in the city of Inkoo, and the second in Estonia, situated in the city of Paldiski. These landing stations serve as vital access points for internet and telecommunications services in both countries.
The total capacity of the FEC submarine cable is an impressive 400 Gbps, which allows for substantial data transmission capabilities, accommodating the growing demand for high-speed internet and services across both nations. The cable is engineered for longevity, with an expected lifespan of at least 25 years, ensuring that it will serve the telecommunications needs of the region well into the future.
