The Batam-Rengit Cable System (BRCS) is a significant submarine cable project designed to enhance connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore. This undersea communication system aims to support the increasing demand for bandwidth and improve internet services in the region.
The BRCS was officially ready for service on December 12, 2022. It connects two primary cable landing stations: one located in Batam, Indonesia, and the other in Rengit, Malaysia. The cable spans approximately 30 kilometers across the Straits of Singapore, facilitating high-speed data transfer between the two locations.
The total capacity of the Batam-Rengit Cable System is 36 terabits per second (Tbps), which allows for substantial data transmission and supports a variety of applications, from telecommunication services to internet-based content. This capacity is vital for meeting the growing digital demands in Southeast Asia, particularly as more businesses and consumers rely on robust internet connectivity.
The lifespan of the BRCS submarine cable is expected to be around 25 years, ensuring long-term usability and support for evolving technology and user needs. This durability is essential for maintaining a reliable communication infrastructure in the region.
