The Australia-Singapore Cable (ASC) is a significant submarine telecommunications cable system that enhances the connectivity between Australia and Singapore. This cable plays a vital role in meeting the increasing demand for data and internet services in the Asia-Pacific region.
The ASC was officially ready for service in mid-2020, marking a pivotal advancement in telecommunications infrastructure. The cable features multiple landing stations, with key sites situated in Australia and Singapore. In Australia, the primary landing stations are located in Perth and Sydney, while the Singapore landing station is located in the well-established telecommunications hub of Changi.
With a remarkable total capacity of 60 terabits per second (Tbps), the ASC is designed to support the growing global bandwidth requirements driven by the rise of digital services, cloud computing, and streaming platforms. This high capacity enables efficient data transmission across international borders, bolstering the digital economy of both Australia and Singapore.
The expected lifespan of the ASC cable is approximately 25 years, ensuring long-term reliability and performance for its users. As technology continues to evolve, the ASC will remain a pivotal component of the telecommunications framework in the region.
